Abstract
Corneal epithelial defect is healed by maturation and differentiation of limbal stem cells, Immunohistochemical staining is the most effective in reflecting dynamic manifestation of factors related to regeneration and in observing localizaion of
corneal
limbal stem cells.
The author attempted to prove morphologically cell proliferation and differentiation process using immuohistochemical staining for EGFR, ¥á-enolase and PCNA in humman corneal epithelium.
As a result, immunopositive cells were located evenly in corneal epithellial basal cell layer and were stained selectively in cell membrane in EGFR, cytoplasm in ¥á-enolase and cell nucleus in PCNA respectively.
The author could identify that differention and proliferation of human corneal epithelium is carried out in corneal epithelial basal layer.
